Ruth Roman is the youngest child born to Lithuanian as well as Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) and Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. Her father's death as a Carnival barker at the age of an infant She was required to provide for the family by working as a cook and server. Ruth was a student and was poor throughout Boston Massachusetts' tenement districts. The school she attended within two years of her education in order to pursue acting as a profession. The path she chose was filled with difficulties. After obtaining a position at New York as a model for a detective magazine she had a difficult time trying to find work on stage. After working as a hat-check girl at a nightclub she quit and returned to Boston. She was in Boston where she worked during the late night, she was an actor for New England Repertory Company and during the day, was an usherette. She has also completed her studies at Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she studied drama.
